How can therapy help?

Talking therapies can help with many difficult life problems - from coping with traumatic experiences and events, to dealing with depression and anxiety or managing harmful emotions and behaviours.

Therapy can help you get to know yourself better, clarify issues that matter to you and develop your potential. It gives you the opportunity to work in ways which promote your ability to resolve problems, or to develop coping skills for things which cannot be changed.

How long will I need to participate in therapy before I feel better?

Usually therapists meet with clients weekly, however, there is no one-size-fits all approach as it depends on your unique needs and goals however I mainly offer Ongoing weekly sessions, at same agreed time, day and location either online or Face to Face for a duration of 50 minutes at agreed fee.

What can I expect to happen in a therapy session?

Many people who have never participated in a therapy session wonder what it will be like. Will the therapist ask you a lot of questions about your feelings? Will they ask you to discuss your fears? Will you have to talk about your childhood?

The truth is that different therapists handle their first therapy sessions differently. My main approach is person centred where during our initial session it will form the basis of an assessment in which we can continue from our initial contact. I will then continue to collate background information and gain an understanding of what would be your main focus during our counselling sessions together.

I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) and adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which means I need to tell you what data I am collecting from you and what I intend to do with it where this will also be covered during our 1st session.

May I include family members in my therapy sessions?

In some settings, therapy may involved other people. In others, your therapy session will only involve  you and your therapist. Different circumstances will dictate who should attend your therapy session. During our initial consultation we will discuss who should come with you to your therapy sessions.
